Joanne (Webb) Perkins
Joanne (Webb) Perkins’ journey on Earth came to an end at the Wales Home, Richmond, Quebec, on Saturday forenoon, November 21, 2009.
Joanne was born on July 23, 1931 in Danville, the younger daughter of Elton and Laura Webb of Asbestos. Her sister Luvia, and youngest brother Charles, predeceased her in 1987 and 1968 respectively. Her brother Merton Webb, and wife Muriel (Oakley) survive, as does Margaret Healy, Charles’ widow.
Joanne received her education at the Asbestos High Schools, graduating in 1948, and worked at the Asbestos Branch of the CIBC until her marriage to Chester Perkins in 1951. Their first son arrived the following year. Less than two years later her husband contracted polio, leaving him a paraplegic and unable to support a family as a farmer. Joanne then worked at Canadian Johns-Manville Company in Asbestos for nearly six years. Three more children arrived over the next few years. As a teenager Joanne’s goal in life was to become a nurse, specializing in pediatrics, as she always loved babies. That dream did not materialize. Her profession and joy became as a wife, mother, and an especially successful homemaker.
Joanne was quite a reserved person, never seeking to be in the spotlight, but being more comfortable in the background, listening, and ready to help if a need arose. Loyalty to family and church always came first. She was a life-long member of the Danville Advent Christian Church where she sang in the choir until she became the organist when Mrs. Ardice McCoy was no longer able. She taught a Sunday school class and served as Treasurer of the Women’s Missionary Society for many years. She also took an active role in the Sherbrooke Christian Women’s Club, serving several years as book chairman and two terms as treasurer. She also served as leader in a Stonecroft Bible study group in Danville. Joanne always determined to be well prepared for each of her duties even if it meant rising early to practice the organ or study for a class.
Joanne is survived by Chester, her husband of 58 years, her children Kenneth (Darlene), Ruth (Wayne), James (Shana) and Esther, and 12 grandchildren. Her memorial service was held in the Dupuis Funeral Parlour in Danville, with arrangements by Barry Evans. Her son, James, conducted the service. Her son-in-law Rev. Wayne Lucas delivered a short scripture-based message, challenging listeners to follow and serve the Lord as she herself had done all her life. Paul Saunders of Cambridge, Ont. played the organ and Melanie Saunders sang IN THE GARDEN. Carl Barnaby of Searsmont, Maine, husband of Joanne’s cousin Betty Fessenden who was the bridesmaid at her wedding, sang IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. A recording of Ruth and James singing NO MORE NIGHT… “no more night, no more pain, no more tears, never crying again…” was played. Interment took place in the Danville Protestant Cemetery.
Being a quiet, retiring type of person, Joanne may not be remembered as long by those who did not know her very well, but she will never be forgotten by her family who loved her very much, nor will she be forgotten by her Lord when He returns, as the Bible tells us in the Book of Acts, chapter 1 verses 10-11 “…suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee,’ they said, ‘Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’” NIV

Kori was prized and admired by her beloved husband Jaye. They married June 15, 1985.
Through life’s ebb and flow, Kori was often heard saying, “My God is bigger than that!” Kori personally knew the One Who holds every tomorrow and eternity in His hand. Her strong faith in Christ was her light in life.

Lois Muriel Crouse Cole
died peacefully January 5, 2009, at her home in Dayton, Maine. She was born February 8, 1913 in Crouseville, Aroostook Co., Maine, the 10th of 11 children of Jesse Wilmot Crouse and Mamie Clark Crouse. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1931, and received her teaching certificate from Presque Isle Normal School in 1933. In June of 1933 she met Richard Lee Cole of Dayton’s Cole Farm Dairy family at a church sponsored retreat at Lakeside Campmeeting in North Belgrade, Maine. After a year’s long distance courtship that consisted primarily of letters, with only three actual face to face encounters during the year, the couple were married at the Cole family home on June 30, 1934. They lived briefly in Amesbury, Massachusetts, immediately after their marriage, then moved to Dayton, Maine, where they have lived ever since. In June she and Richard would have celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
Lois was a multi-talented individual whose life revolved around her family, home, church, and community. As a dedicated wife, she was a partner to her husband’s aspirations and efforts. As a devoted mother she successfully raised 3 sons. As a homemaker, she divided her time between a number of pursuits. She was an outstanding baker and creative cook who truly enjoyed the fine art of healthy cuisine; an avid gardener who enjoyed equally the beauties of flower gardens, as well as the labor of sowing and harvesting the practical benefits of extensive vegetable gardens; a talented seamstress who created most of her own stylish wardrobe, as well as numerous items for her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and many others. Her love of beauty was also reflected in her home, where she created an environment that was both comfortable and artistic. As a talented musician she shared her love of music with family and friends.
Lois was very active in the Advent Christian Church of Goodwins Mills, where she served in many capacities: as a Sunday school teacher, a member of the church choir, a musician in the church’s orchestra, a pianist and, when occasions demanded, as organist.
Lois was also active in her community as an educator, teaching various levels from Kindergarten to 8th grade, working both full time and as a substitute teacher for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband Richard; her youngest, and last surviving sibling, Wilma Crouse Perkins of Deltona, Florida; 3 sons: Clark Cole of Dayton, Maine; Wallace Cole of Denali National Park, Alaska; and Alden Cole of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 4 grandchildren: Mark Cole, Laurie Cole Hillman, Land Cole, and Jenna Cole Hamm; and 6 great-grandchildren: Joshua and Desneiges Cole, Jackson and Madison Hillman, Oliver Cole, and Danika Hamm.
